Academic Community
Since 8 July 2003, the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and the Erasmushogeschool Brussel have joined in the non-profit association Universitaire Associatie Brussel.
The foundation of this non-profit association was the formalisation of the collaboration agreement between the two institutions that was already concluded in 2001. In this agreement, the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and the Erasmushogeschool Brussel undertook to engage in an intensive and structural collaboration in the fields of education and research. The Universitaire Associatie Brussel represents approximately 9,200 university students and 4,200 college students, or about two thirds of all Dutch-speaking college and university students in Brussels.
At present, the association is composed of two partners:
The Vrije Universiteit Brussel, with campuses in Etterbeek and Jette, representing 8 faculties:
- Faculty of Law and Criminology
- Faculty of economic, political and social sciences and Solvay Business School
- Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences
- Faculty of Arts and Philosophy
- Faculty of Science and Bio-engineering Sciences
- Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy
- Faculty of Engineering
- Faculty of Physical Education and Physiotherapy
- and the Vesalius College
The Erasmushogeschool Brussel (‘EhB’ for short), which is comprised of the following departments:
- Applied Linguistics
- Campus Dansaert
- Healthcare & LTA
- Industrial Sciences and Technology
- Rits (audio-visual and dramatic arts and techniques)
- Royal Music Conservatory of Brussels
- Teacher Training
UZ Brussel is a university hospital.
This means that it also has a teaching mission and conducts scientific research. The hospital’s clinical excellence, scientific commitment and human-centric tuition ensure the highest degree of competence in many fields. The hospital is closely associated with the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, notably the Medicine and Pharmacy Faculty. As a top-rate hospital, UZ Brussels has gained recognition at national and international level.
