VUB TechTransfer supported by Professor Hugo Thienpont.
Since years the Vrije Universiteit Brussel has attached more and more importance to its relations with the world of business and industry. This evolution has led to the creation of a separate vicerectorate Innovation & Industrial Policy at the beginning of the academic year 2015. Under the academic supervision of Hugo Thienpont, it is the ambition of VUB TechTransfer to play an increasingly prominent role in attracting and instigating new economic activity at and around the VUB campuses in the Brussels Capital Region and in the Flanders Region. Thus we can assure that revenues are reinvested in an ecosystem of excellent researchers, open innovation and industrial collaboration.
Hugo Thienpont is a full professor in photonics at the Faculty of Engineering of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. He is chairman of the VUB Photonics department and director of B-PHOT, the Brussels Photonics Team with 50 experts that focus on photonics-driven innovation in research and industry. After being Chairman Innovation and Industrial Policy for quite some time, he will now be the first Vicerector Innovation and Industrial Policy.
