Information Session for researchers in life sciences: "Intellectual Property and valorisation of research"
Patents and patent applications are important tools for collaboration between research institutions and companies and the valorization of research and an important source of technical information.
On Thursday, June 20, 2013 from 14h to 15h30, Hugo Loosvelt, Technology Transfer Officer (TTO) of the Technology Transfer Interface (R & D dept.) of VUB will give an information session for researchers in life sciences on patents and technology transfer entitled "Intellectual Property and valorisation of research". This information session will be held at auditorium 4 of the Faculty G & F.
During this information session VUB's Technology Transfer Interface will be briefly presented followed by an introduction to patents. Patents and patent applications are important tools for the collaboration between research institutions and companies and the valorisation of research but, above all, they are a very important source of technical information. According to OESO, patents and patent applications include up to 80% of the globally available technical knowledge. This source of information is, however, little used by researchers.
Hugo Loosvelt manages since 2006 the patent portfolio of the university, and this in close collaboration with the inventors and researchgroups. As TTO officer, he constantly strives for the vaorization of VUB/UZ research results, negotiating R & D cooperation contracts and licensing agreements with industrial partners. Hugo Loosvelt is actively involved in creating awareness within the scientific community around intellectual property, entrepreneurship, industrial cooperation and licensing. He is recognized as a registered technology transfer professional with the Alliance of Technology Transfer Professionals (ATTP), an international body for technology transfer professionals. He graduated as an industrial engineer in industrial chemistry and obtained his doctorate in physics.
