Mastercourse: Data Innovation - The importance of data exploration and hypothesis building - 23 March 2017
Data science can be very valuable to innovate within several domains, also for SMEs. The EluciDATA mastercourse will provide pragmatic and industry-oriented sessions to data-driven innovation. (mastercourse is in English)
While today attention mainly goes to examples by major internet companies (e.g. Google, Amazon, Facebook), data science can also be very valuable to innovate within other industrial domains as well as within SMEs. It enables one to derive new insights from experimental data, to profile products and customers, to optimize production processes, to predict failure of machines.
In this context, the EluciDATA mastercourse will provide pragmatic and industry-oriented sessions to data-driven innovation. This mastercourse will be composed of several sessions in order to accommodate for the different needs and viewpoints of people with different backgrounds.
Session 3 : The importance of data exploration and hypothesis building
Having a clear idea of the business opportunity and having a library of intelligent algorithms at your disposal is not sufficient for realizing a data-driven solution. Having a detailed understanding of the available data in order to derive viable working hypotheses about the underlying mechanisms of the problem under study is just as important. Is the data suitable to solve the business challenge? Is it of the right quality and nature? What data is missing? Does it exhibit significant patterns and trends that can be exploited to model and understand better the problem under study? In this session several data exploration approaches will be discussed, with particular attention for numerical and visual data exploration techniques.
For this mastercourse no specific technological background is required. The mastercourse is open to any company that is interested in data innovation as an opportunity for its company or its activities.
