Medical Data (2 workshop sessions) - February 21 & March 14, 2013

The "Brussels LifeTech cluster" is pleased to invite you to a 2 workshop sessions on "Medical Data" held by Jean Herveg, renowned for his research activities dealing with the processing of medical data in healthcare (Privacy and Data Protection) and ehealth products and services. 

First session on February 21 between 15h00 and 18h00 : "ABCs of the Medical Data legal aspects"
This "first session" is designed to provide participants with the basic knowledge needed to understand the regulation of the use of "Medical Data". The presentation will deliver an overview of the legal framework governing the use of "Medical Data" (medical confidentiality, privacy law and regulatory issues) as well as major organs that may be involved (privacy commission, ordinal authorities, judicial authorities and sectorial committee social security and health).

Second session on March 14 between 15h00 and 18h00 : "Medical Data and Cloud Computing". The "second session" proposes to apply the legal framework seen during the first session, considering the use of cloud computing services for "Medical Data". This will give a practical application of the rules and when the intervention of some public bodies may be required in terms of authorization and control.

Jean HERVEG received his Master in Law from the University of Louvain (UCL, Belgium) in 1993. He is a member of the Bar of Brussels (1993-present). Since 2000, he has been with the Research Centre Information, Law & Society (CRIDS, University of Namur, Belgium) and now is Head of Research. He was lecturer (Maître de Conférences), from September 2005 to August 2011, teaching a course on “Medical Law and ICT”. Today, he teaches a course on “Privacy: Cross Perspectives on New Technologies” with Jean-Noël COLIN. He is also teaching a course on “Data Protection” in the post-graduate programs “INFOSAFE” and MII. His research activity deals with the processing of medical data in healthcare (Privacy and Data Protection) and ehealth products and services. He is the author of numerous communications on ehealth and on the processing of personal data, as well as of several journal papers and book chapters in these domains. He is involved in European and national projects in the fields of ehealth and of data protection.
