Protection@lunch : How to protect your software - February 16th, 2012
pastYou invest in developing new products, your name is known in the industry, you have a brilliant new idea ....
Intellectual property rights can protect your efforts. This session is an efficient and enjoyable way to find out about intellectual property rights in practice.
In a number of lunchtime sessions, organized by "Agentschap Ondernemen" and Flanders DC and supported by the Innovation Center Vlaams-Brabant, specialists give practical and useful information about a specific topic of intellectual property rights.
Session 1: How do I protect my software?
Every manager has to deal with software whether you develop your own software, or your software is customized for your company and / or you use a third party's software. Software is the odd man out in the landscape of intellectual property. It is usually protected by copyright, but in some cases by a patent. There are also contractual obligations.
This session brings clarity on the following topics:
- How are property rights for software controlled?
- Can I protect (custom developed) software?
- What types of licenses exist and what rights and obligations are attached to such licensing?
- How do I navigate with open source software? Can I freely use this software?
Target audience : Companies that use, develop or customise software and want to know more about the legal aspects of it.
Speaker: Karen Ongena, IP Porta
