Sixty years of migration in Brussels - 21.02.2013

iMinds-SMIT, Vrije Universiteit Brussel warmly invites you to Stoemp, a monthly informal lunch lecture on Brussels serving pea soup, sausage and bread. Historian Hans Vandecandelaere will present his newest and ambitious book “In Brussel, een reis door de wereld". This book is a first attempt to compile academic and journalistic knowledge on 60 years of migration in Brussels - from 1946 until today.

“In Brussel, een reis door de wereld" elaborates on the migration history of approximately 40 "communities" living in Brussels.

The lecture, however, will focus on how this incredible migration diversity increased so rapidly in the last 60 years, and which new kind of realities this implies for Brussels.

“In Brussel, een reis door de wereld", published by Epo, will be available for purchase.

This lecture is organised in collaboration with IRIB (Institut de Recherches Interdisciplinaires sur Bruxelles (fusl)), UAB Urban Studies Network (Stadsplatform) and Brussels Studies Institute.

Hans Vandecandelaere is a historian and expert on Brussels. He graduated with a dissertation on the Brussels revolt in the Middle Ages.
