SoftKinetic/Optrima Certificate of Appreciation Ceremony - 4 December 2015
In October, Sony bought 3D Sensor innovator SoftKinetic. SoftKinetic originated from a merger with VUB spin-off Optrima in 2011. Prof. Maarten Kuijk (ETRO), who founded Optrima with four of his PhD students, stood at the origin of SoftKinetic's groundbreaking 3D technology.
SoftKinetic's sensor technology, that detects and analyses movements in 3D, was invented and developed at VUB with support from FWO, IWT, and the Brussels Region. It is expected that this VUB technology will become widespread in the future. It is already being used today by the likes of BMW and Facebook, in their Oculus Rift 3D glasses.
As a token of recognition of the contribution, quality work, and dedication in promoting and valorising VUB's technological excellence around the globe, the university has the pleasure to award its first Certificate of Appreciation to the Optrima/SoftKinetic team.
Rector Paul De Knop and Vice-Rector of Innovation & Industrial Policy Hugo Thienpont will present this certificate in the Weber Lobby (Pleinlaan 9) on December 4th.
VUB's Knowledge & Technology Transfer Interface (KTI) also wishes to express its appreciation to the Brussels Region, Innoviris, and other crucial partners.
