Industrial Microbiology and Food Biotechnology (IMDO)

The Research Group of Industrial Microbiology and Food Biotechnology (IMDO) has acquired great expertise in the study of the whole of microbial factors that influence (fermented) food quality, in particular with respect to functional starter cultures to steer food fermentation processes, and gut health. IMDO has several patent families and has a portfolio of several interesting functional starter cultures, co-cultures, bio-protective cultures, and health-promoting cultures. Thanks to its scientific excellence, IMDO is running a Strategic Research Program (2013-2017) and an Interdisciplinary Research Program (since 2009) of the VUB.
