Research on energy & environment at the VUB
Tackling the challenges of the 21st century
Environmental issues demand for a strategic long term approach based on more shared responsibility, a more efficient knowledge exchange and the establishment of common goals. The challenges of today create opportunities for the academic as well as the industrial world.
At the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), research projects on key issues such as climate change, energy efficiency, energy awareness and eco-effectiveness range from human to engineering sciences, trying to engage as many disciplines as possible from both the fundamental and applied sciences. Studies of mobility, wind power, biomass combustion, aquatic systems, glaciers, climate change, hybrid vehicles, soil and wastewater purification are just a few examples of the research we are conducting.
Recently a new interdisciplinary research group, Earth System Sciences, has been created, bringing together geologists, geographers, glaciologists, chemists, oceanographers, climatologists, engineers and archeologists working on the global Earth System.
