A newly designed endotracheal tube (ETT) for the prevention of ventilator-associated pneumonia

University Hospital Brussels (UZ Brussel, Intensive Care)

The proposed improved ETT relies upon a physiologically sound and proven concept of secretions being evacuated in a patient who remains adequately ventilated. The efficacy of the improved ETT is not based on any existing technique or material (e.g. subglottic suctioning, silver coating, specific cuff form or material, …). Superiority of the improved ETT in preventing leakage of secretions was demonstrated in the “classical”vertical syringe model but also in an artificial trachea model.
