122 Flemish soccer clubs receive a quality label for talent development

Sporting West Harelbeke, K.A.C. Betekom and K.H.O. Huizingen win a Foot PASS Award

Double PASS bvba, spin-off of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, held its yearly "Quality in Sports Happening" and granted the Foot PASS Quality Labels for talent development in youth soccer. The Foot PASS-project is for more than 10 years the state-of-the art project in youth soccer and has already screened more than 900 clubs in Flanders. Double PASS is also on a international level succesful with the Foot PASS project, also implemented in Germany (Bundesliga), England (Premier League) and Hungary.

On the "Quality in Sports Happening" 2014 this week all soccer clubs, audited by Double PASS, were invited to the venue in Wemmel. In 2013 a total of 118 clubs had been audited and in 2014 (first quarter) already 77 clubs joined, resulting in a total of nearly 200 clubs who were present at this Happening.

Two out of three clubs received a star label, from 1 to 4 stars. Next to that the yearly Foot PASS Awards were granted for the best performing clubs in youth talent development. In the category of "Regional clubs" K.H.O. Huizingen won this award, whereas in the categories of "Provincial clubs" and "National Clubs, the winners where respectively K.A.C. Betekom and S.W. Harelbeke.

Next to those "Foot PASS Awards" also three "Best Practice Awards" were granted to the clubs that had a highly valuable best practice in their youth development approach. Those awards were won by: Juventus Schoonaarde (Regional clubs), F.C. Gullegem (Provincial clubs) and again S.W. Harelbeke (National clubs).

By means of this "Quality in Sports Happening", the quality labels and the Foot PASS Awards Double PASS wants to focus on the importance of a high-quality talent development system in soccer clubs and hopes to stimulate soccer clubs to invest in a broad, systematic and thorough youth approach. Scientific research indicates clearly this is the only way to build a broad and qualitative basis for a succesfull soccer pyramid.
