Certificate of Appreciation for SoftKinetic
Vrije Universiteit Brussel held a ceremony on the 4th of December 2015 to award its first Certificate of Appreciation to Optrima/SoftKinetic, a 3D Sensor innovator and a very successful VUB spin-off. The award is a token of recognition of the contribution, quality work, and dedication in promoting and valorising VUB's technological excellence around the globe. In October 2015, Sony announced the acquisition of SoftKinetic Systems.
SoftKinetic Systems originated from a merger of VUB spin-off Optrima and SoftKinetic in 2011. Prof. Maarten Kuijk (ETRO), who founded Optrima with four of his PhD students, stood at the origin of SoftKinetic's groundbreaking 3D technology.
SoftKinetic's sensor technology, that detects and analyses movements in 3D, was invented and developed at VUB with support from FWO, IWT, Innoviris and the Brussels Region. It is expected that this VUB technology will become widespread in the future.
Daniel Van Nieuwenhove of Optima/SoftKinetic said that passion for technology and entrepreneurschip is essential and that this passion was fueled at VUB. “Professor Maarten Kuijk gave me the passion for technology, Marc Goldchstein and his Starter Seminars gave me the passion for entrepreneurship.”
