Space expertise at the VUB
The VUB performs a lot of research in the space sector. Aurélie Bellemans, assistant professor of Applied Mechanics, tries to simplify very complicated computer models for calculating heat shields by applying artificial intelligence and machine learning processes. Her colleague Enrico Anfuso obtained a Frank De Winne mandate from the FWO in December. He searches for materials that can be used in heat shields and makes surprising discoveries.
